A Chinese court sentenced an American citizen to death on Thursday for allegedly murdering his former girlfriend, state media reported.
중국 법원이 목요일 전 여자친구를 살해한 혐의로 미국 시민에게 사형을 선고했다고 국영 언론이 보도했다.

Shadeed Abdulmateen, who taught at the Ningbo University of Technology, was charged with the intentional homicide of a 21-year-old Chinese woman surnamed Chen, according to Chinese state media.
중국 국영 언론에 따르면 닝보 공과대학에서 가르쳤던 Shadeed Abdulmateen은 Chen이라는 21세 중국 여성을 의도적으로 살해한 혐의로 기소되었습니다.

After a disagreement over their breakup in June 2019, Abdulmateen arranged to meet and talk with Chen at a bus stop in Ningbo, Zhejiang province, before killing her with a "folding knife," said the Ningbo Intermediate People's Court in its verdict(판결).
닝보 중급 인민법원은 평결에서 압둘마틴이 2019년 6월 결별에 대한 의견 차이가 있은 후 저장성 닝보의 버스 정류장에서 첸과 만나 이야기를 나누다가 "접는 칼"로 살해했다고 밝혔습니다.


The court held that the defendant's "premeditated(계획적인) revenge killing, stabbing and cutting Chen's face and neck several times, resulting in Chen's death, was motivated by vile motives, resolute(단호한) intent and cruel means, and the circumstances of the crime were particularly bad and the consequences particularly serious, and should be punished according to law," according to public broadcaster CCTV.
법원은 피고인이 “계획적인 복수 살인, 천씨의 얼굴과 목을 여러 차례 찔러 숨지게 한 것은 사악한 동기와 단호한 의도, 잔혹한 수단에 의해 동기가 부여되었으며 범행 경위가 특히 나빴고 그 결과가 심각했다. 특히 심각하며 법에 따라 처벌해야 한다"고 공영방송 CCTV에 전했다.

The court said it had provided Abdulmateen with his rights to defense, including access to a translator and consular(영사/대사관)visits, according to state-run tabloid the Global Times.
국영 타블로이드 글로벌 타임스(Global Times)에 따르면 법원은 압둘마틴에게 통역과 영사 방문을 포함한 변호권을 부여했다고 말했다.


A spokesperson from the United States Embassy in Beijing said it was aware of a court decision related to a US citizen in China, and that officials were "monitoring the situation," but would not comment further due to privacy considerations.
베이징 주재 미국 대사관 대변인은 중국에 있는 미국 시민과 관련된 법원의 판결을 알고 있으며 관리들이 상황을 주시하고 있지만 사생활 보호를 위해 더 이상 언급하지 않을 것이라고 말했습니다.

China is the world's top executioner(사형집행국), according to Amnesty International, sentencing thousands to death every year. China does not disclose execution numbers.

Over the past decade, people from Uganda, South Korea, Japan and Kenya have received death sentences for drug crimes.
